In Ray Bradbury’s short story “A Sound of Thunder”, a group of people travel millions of years into the past to hunt dinosaurs. One of them accidentally steps on and kills a butterfly, which dramatically alters the future.

This idea was also taken up in a movie called “The Butterfly Effect”, starring Aston Kutcher, about a young man who managed to travel to his past and, by altering earlier events, changed outcomes in his future, including some that were unforeseen.

The butterfly effect has its roots in chaos theory, where a small event can have a ripple effect and bring about possible dramatic changes – the fluttering of a butterfly’s wings possibly forestalling a monsoon that would have devestated an island.

Successful internet marketing is the result of many such “trivial” events at work.

But which ones will prove to be significant and how do we sustain, and even build, the momentum which is generated?

f. A quality product that users are willing to pass on to others is accompanied by an implied recommendation. They are effectively building your reputation.

Special Considerations:

1. Whatever the product is that you use, it should be of significant value and free – or of very low cost in relation to its perceived value. But usually it is free and easy to pass on.

2. Make it easy for people to pass on by using buttons, active links, tell-a-friend windows, etc. Many products also combine very well with an affiliate program when the affiliate receives some extra benefit from promoting the viral message. For instance, by being able to brand an ebook the affiliate gains credit when a reader buys through a branded link.

3. Buttons and links are not interchangeable. Many email facilities do not handle HTML well, especially those that are web-based. Codes can be easily corrupted. Use active links in emails and save buttons for web pages.

4. Be sure your message includes a clear call to action. There should be no doubt about what you intend recipients to do.

5. The INCENTIVE should be clear to those you want to act.

6. Offer clear instructions so that recipients know HOW to act.

7. The action you require should be simple and obvious. Don’t complicate it or confuse the reader, such as by adding numerous links.

Already, based on In-Stat’s new multi-client research, 26% of U.S. consumer respondents report viewing Internet TV more than once per week. However, rather than a substitute for traditional pay TV services, consumers want Over-the-Top (OTT) Internet video to compliment traditional TV offerings.

“Consumers want the best of both worlds: Pay TV and OTT Video,” says Keith Nissen, In-Stat analyst. “Nearly 40% of consumer broadband household respondents want a combination of linear and on-demand TV, and nearly three quarters want to acquire all their video content from their pay TV operator.”

Keywords, keywords, keywords – the term used so often in search engine optimization that it can get a bit overwhelming at times. What exactly are keywords? How do I find them? How do I use them? Why is the term spelled keywords instead of key words? Ah, there are so many questions we can go into. Of course, we should talk about something far more important.

The key to keyword research is focusing on the key word. How is that for a sentence? Okay, now for something understandable. When identifying terms you wish to use in the optimization effort for your site, you must look to the base word of the area you are researching. That probably is not much better, so here is an example.

Assume I am researching the keywords for an online internet marketing company, to wit, the site promoted with this article. Should I type in “online internet marketing” into my favorite research tool? No! By doing so, I limit myself to finding only those keywords that contain these three words. Taking this approach, I would even miss the basic term “internet marketing.” Obviously, I have not focused on the root word of my research.

Returning to my research tool, I should go ahead and find all the words for “internet marketing”, right? No! Doing so will return more keyword phrases, but I am still limiting myself to only those phrases that contain the two words. In this case, I will miss out on phrases related to “internet advertising” or “online marketing” and so on. By taking this approach, I have followed the seo herd and missed out on some juicy opportunities.

The best approach to the above scenario is to research two words first – “internet” and “marketing”. Do them separately and then work your way into the various combination of words that will appear. These are your root words. Bow before them. Treat them nicely. Research them and you might just find some massive traffic with low competition, the stuff of dreams!

There is a tendency in seo to by into the hype of going niche. Yes, certain situations definitely call for focusing on a very defined niche. When doing your keyword research, however, always start with the root words. They will lead you to the niche you can make money in.
